The Manhattan Pickleball Guide: Best Clubs for Advanced Players

Written by: David Judson

Manhattan has no shortage of pickleball courts, but finding a quality game as an advanced player is harder than it sounds. The city's public courts are free, but they come with a catch: during peak hours they're overcrowded and during off-peak hours you'll spend more time fielding requests from strangers wanting to join your group than actually playing.

Some of the Manhattan’s best pickleball infrastructure — Life Time PENN 1's seven courts in Midtown and the Hell's Kitchen Pickleball Club — sits behind membership walls that run anywhere from $3,600 to $4,800 a year, plus initiation fees.

The only reliable way to get a quality experience — with the right players, at the right level, without interruption — is to book a private court. The good news is that several of Manhattan's best indoor facilities let you do exactly that without requiring a full club membership.

Here's a rundown of the best ones.

CityPickle Times Square

CityPickle Times Square is one of NYC’s strongest indoor pickleball clubs for serious players: an upscale, polished facility with good court conditions, food and drink amenities, strong coaching, and no membership requirement to play.

For advanced players, the biggest draw is the structure — DUPR-gated 3.5+ open play in morning, afternoon, and evening slots, plus DUPR-gated 3.5+ clinics and a deep coaching bench that makes it more useful than a standard court-rental venue.

QUICK OVERVIEW

  • Courts: 7 indoor, Rebound Ace cushioned surface, 18-ft ceilings. Courts have digital scoreboards and on-court video replay.

  • DUPR-rated play: Yes — DUPR-verified leagues and DUPR Match Play with results submitted in-app.

OPEN PLAY FOR ADVANCED PLAYERS

CityPickle’s DUPR-gated 3.5+ Open Play is one of the strongest reasons advanced players should have Times Square on their radar. Unlike general open play, these sessions require players to have a DUPR rating above 3.50, creating a more reliable skill floor and reducing the odds of mismatched games.

  • Daily early morning and evening sessions.

  • Some afternoon sessions.

  • Check PodPlay for exact times. (Note: while in the app filter for: “Times Square” & “Advanced”

CLINICS FOR ADVANCED PLAYERS

CityPickle also offers DUPR-gated 3.5+ drill clinics for players who want more than casual open play. These sessions require a verified DUPR doubles rating above 3.50 and are built around focused drilling, skill reinforcement, and cleaner repetition.

  • Players must have a DUPR doubles rating above 3.50 to sign up.

  • The clinic is designed for players who already have match experience. The format emphasizes repetition, consistency, and skill reinforcement rather than casual game rotation.

  • Sessions are capped at a maximum of 3 players per court, giving players more touches and more focused reps.

Pickle1 FiDi

Pickle1 is Lower Manhattan's only purpose-built indoor pickleball club — a light-filled, well-appointed space that opened in 2025 and serves the FiDi and downtown Manhattan player base. For advanced players, the location is the main draw: if you're working or living below Chambers Street, this is the closest court to you. The club is newer and still building its competitive programming, but the facility itself is solid.

QUICK OVERVIEW

  • Address: 7 Hanover Square, Ground Floor Corner Retail, New York, NY 10004 — between Water and Pearl Streets (Note: enter via ground floor retail)

  • Hours: Mon–Sun 6am–12am

  • Courts: 3 indoor, Pro Cushion surface, 24-ft ceilings. Courts have PodPlay video replay and digital scoreboards.

  • Membership required? No for basic access; membership improves booking access and pricing

  • DUPR-rated play: Not confirmed — no DUPR-sanctioned events found at time of writing (Not found in available sources as of June 2026)

  • Website & Booking: Booking through PodPlay; website at pickle1.world

  • Transit: Accessible via 1/2/3, 4/5, A/C, R/W, J/Z lines

OPEN PLAY FOR ADVANCED PLAYERS

Pickle1 runs open play sessions described as skill-grouped — "players of a similar level" — but the official site and booking platform do not currently publish skill-gated open play with explicit DUPR minimums or a 3.5+/4.0+ label. Sessions are priced at $30 for 1.5-hour and $34 for 2-hour open plays.

Check PodPlay for current open play schedule. Filter for skill level before booking; the phrasing "similar level" on the site is vague, and session quality will depend on who's registered.

Important note for advanced players: If finding 3.8+ competition is your goal, confirm skill composition before committing. As a relatively new facility, Pickle1's competitive player base is still forming.

Court 16 Manhattan – FiDi

Court 16 was the first indoor tennis club in Lower Manhattan, and pickleball has been added as a secondary offering. The facility is clean and well-staffed with a lounge, ball machine training, and a Babolat pro shop. The location at 28 Liberty Street, one block from Wall Street, is hard to beat if you work in FiDi or the broader downtown area.

QUICK OVERVIEW

  • Address: 28 Liberty St, SC1, New York, NY 10005 — one block from Wall Street, inside Fosun Plaza

  • Hours: Mon–Thu 8am–10pm, Fri 8am–9pm, Sat 9am–7:30pm, Sun 9am–6:30pm

  • Courts: 4 indoor courts — 44-ft cushioned surface (shared tennis/pickleball use), plus a dedicated ball machine practice court

  • Membership required? No — membership is optional but unlocks discounts and priority booking

  • DUPR-rated play: Not found in available sources as of June 2026

  • Website & Booking:court16.com/manhattan-fidi; bookings via Mindbody or the Court 16 app

  • Transit: Accessible via 2/3, 4/5, A/C, J/Z lines

A NOTE FOR ADVANCED PLAYERS

Court 16 FiDi is a court rental venue for advanced pickleball players, not a competitive destination. The clinic tiers top out at Intermediate (3.0–4.0) with no advanced or DUPR-gated programming confirmed, and no DUPR-sanctioned events were found at time of writing.

If you're a 3.8+ player, don't show up expecting competitive open play — the player pool skews beginner and intermediate. The right way to use this club is to bring your own group, book a court, and play on your own terms.

CityPickle Wollman Rink – Central Park

CityPickle Wollman Rink is the most iconic pickleball venue in New York City — 14 outdoor courts spread across the transformed ice rink in the middle of Central Park, with Midtown's skyline as a backdrop. The scale alone sets it apart: it's the largest pickleball installation in the Northeast.

CityPickle secured a 20-year license from NYC Parks to operate the site, so this isn't going anywhere. The season runs spring through early fall (roughly April through October), which means it's a warm-weather option only.

QUICK OVERVIEW

  • Address: Wollman Rink, Central Park, New York, NY 10024 — enter via Central Park South near 6th Ave

  • Season: Spring through early fall

  • Hours: 8am–9pm daily during season

  • Courts: 14 outdoor hard courts — dedicated pickleball lines and nets, standard and cabana court options

  • Membership required? No for basic access; membership improves booking economics

  • DUPR-rated play: Not found in available sources at this location

  • Website & Booking:city-pickle.com/locations/wollman-rink; booking via PodPlay

  • Transit: N/R/W to 5th Ave/59th St or A/B/C/D to 59th St/Columbus Circle

Court Rentals

  • Off-peak: $85/hour

  • Peak: $135/hour

  • Alternatively quoted as $80/court/hour off-peak, $120/court/hour peak

  • Peak hours: 7–10am and 5–9pm Mon–Thu; all day Fri–Sun

  • Off-peak hours: 10am–5pm Mon–Thu

A NOTE FOR ADVANCED PLAYERS

Wollman is best used as a court rental venue, not a destination for competitive pickup games. The open play and clinic programming is all-levels and not DUPR-gated — the published clinic tiers top out at "Advanced Beginner (2.0–3.0 DUPR)" with no confirmed 3.5+ or 4.0+ structured sessions at this location.

The setting is spectacular and the off-peak court pricing is reasonable, but the player pool skewing toward recreational and tourist traffic means game quality in open formats will be unpredictable for a 3.8+ player. Bring your own group, book a court off-peak, and it's one of the best outdoor court experiences in the city.
